In the next weekend at Silverstone will host the tenth event in the calendar of the Royal race.
About expectations of the weekend…
Only a week has passed after an exciting race in Austria, and we return to the world of Formula 1, where we are waiting for the tenth round of the world Royal Motorsport at Silverstone.
The British Grand Prix – home race for many teams, as most teams are based here, including Mercedes. Also note that the race in the UK, one of the oldest in Motorsport. The first Grand Prix of Formula 1 in the UK took place in the distant 1950-m to year, and in 2016 will be the 50th time. Grand Prix of great Britain – one of the most visited in the world championship calendar. Last year in the stands of the racetrack, attended by a record 140 thousand people.
On the circuit at Silverstone is very important the aerodynamics of the car, which is customized to average. Another key to success is the motor and there is an outright advantage for Mercedes. Also note that the pole at Silverstone does not guarantee success in the race, as the track is quite fast and convenient. Plus there are two long straights with DRS, where you can overtake on the open wing. On this track team a lot of time paying attention to the strategy, as the load on the tire is quite high and in the UK there is always the chance of rapid weather changes.
As for the individual competition, reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton once again narrowed the gap from his teammate Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg to 11 points. The last two races at Silverstone was won by Hamilton, for whom this Grand Prix is special because it’s home and then his large army of fans. Thus, for Lewis, this Grand Prix could be a turning point for the first time this season to become the leader of the world championship in Formula 1.
About the track…

Last winner: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, 2015)
The track at Silverstone is considered fast since it has a lot of quick turns and a large enough maximum speed on the straight. This track like many riders because of the difficulty quick ligaments turns, but on the other hand she does not like engineers, as you think ahead about strategies due to tyre wear.
As usual, a tyre manufacturer Formula 1 Pirelli for Silverstone picked up the hard compound tyre Soft, Medium and Hard”, as it was at the Grand Prix of Spain. As described above, the wear on this track is quite high due to the loads in fast turns. Unlike Spain, the UK weather is constantly changing and if it is cool, then the riders will have problems with burnout. This is another reason why Pirelli brought the hard compound.
About the weather…
The preliminary weather forecast for the weekend at Silverstone promises to cool weather with little chance of precipitation. All three days the temperature will range from +19 to +21 degrees at a probability of precipitation of 20%.
Recall that last year all sessions were held on a dry track, but the race to the finish line I went to a small rain, which everyone had to change to intermediate tyres.
Return to the past…
Last season’s race at Silverstone was a busy one for overtaking, and it was a raisin on the cake” in the form of rain in the last laps, which made adjustments in the final Protocol Grand Prix.
Already at the start of the race Hamilton lost the lead, behind Felipe Massa for Williams, a teammate of Lewis at Mercedes, Nico Rosberg lost his position to the Brazilian partner to Valtteri Bottas. But already after the first round on the track appeared safety car due to collision with Button, Alonso, Grosjean, ricciardo and Maldonado.
After the restart Hamilton tried to pass Massa, but a mistake under braking in the last lap and skipped ahead of Bottas. Thus, both drivers Williams is in the first position and led the peloton. The pilots of the British team from grove was strong, but again made a mistake with the strategy and held a late pit stop. Meanwhile Hamilton visited the pits early, and then began to rapidly catch up with Williams and after their pit stops were in first place and lost them.
It would seem, on it all, but no. For a few laps to finish on the track it was raining and quickly caught up with Rosberg teammate, but the Briton immediately responded and went to the pit lane for intermediate tires and not lost, because the terms later, as one went over the same part of the tire. The same strategy worked and Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari, which stopped at a pit stop on the same lap, and Hamilton. As a result, Vettel on the podium in the third place, and the pilots Williams, who could win the race couldn’t even get on the podium.
